Troubleshooting

What is Salem?

Salem is Dubai's unified medical fitness screening system operated under the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). It is mandatory for most UAE residence visas issued in Dubai. Salem conducts medical fitness tests, blood screening (e.g. infectious diseases), chest X-ray (TB screening), and digitally links results to immigration for visa processing.

Who needs Salem?

It is not required for tourist visas or short-term visit visas.

What does the medical fitness test include?

What happens after the test?

If the result is β€œMedically Fit”, your visa process continues. If β€œUnfit”, the residence visa cannot be issued. Processing usually takes 24–48 hours (regular) or same day (express, higher fee).

Typical visa process flow

  1. Entry permit issued
  2. Medical fitness test (Salem)
  3. Emirates ID biometrics
  4. Health insurance
  5. Visa stamping in passport
